When confronted with ADHD, finding the right care option for your child can be daunting. Often the first treatments prescribed are those with a heavy emphasis on a pharmaceutical approach.

However, as each child is different, medication is not always an optimal solution. There is other care available that can have a profound positive effect on your child’s ADHD without the issues and concerns associated with pharmaceutical treatment, such as ADHD medication side effects.

Let’s explore six drug-free options that help boost concentration in those exhibiting the symptoms of ADHD.

Alternative Care Options To Medication

It should be noted that each care option depends on the specific case, as not every procedure is going to be right for any one child. Some cases of ADHD respond better to one type of care but not to others. Also, medication is always a treatment option and is useful in some cases but again, not all. Thus, you should consider and explore all treatment options for your child to discover the right one for your particular case. That being said, there are six ADHD care options that have shown to boost concentration.

Dietary/Food Sensitive Modification or Elimination

Some incidents of ADHD have been linked to factors such as amino acid and fatty acid deficiencies, heavy metal toxicity, and sensitivities to some foods or ingredients. By increasing or decreasing some foods in the diet, the triggers associated with ADHD can be reduced. Often this therapeutic approach is used in conjunction with other treatments to enhance the overall effectiveness of the ADHD treatments and to promote any long-lasting effects.

At Michigan Brain Health we have been using Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques (NAET) with great success in helping solve food intolerance. Often children and adults who are “picky eaters” have uncomfortable sensations and experiences when eating various foods. NAET is a natural method to help improve the body’s ability to maximize tolerance of foods and thereby improve absorption of nutrients. With a wider variety by of foods, our microbiome diversity is enhanced which in turn helps optimize the gut-brain connection.

Interactive Metronome Training

Interactive Metronome Therapy is a scientifically proven process that helps adjust the “brain clock” or internal timing of the brain. By inducing a synchronization of the brain’s internal timing down to the millisecond, the brain can internally correct for any alternate timings created by external factors such as improper diet control, disease, and other factors that can directly impact the timing found in the brain. This synchronization improves focus, alertness, and temporal processing in general.

Eyelight Therapy

Also referred to as Ocular Light Therapy, Eyelight therapy is the use of light to stimulate areas in the brain. By using different wavelengths of light targeted towards the eye, the brain responds by sending signals to various areas located in the brain. These signals thereby stimulate the brain to provide a therapeutic response. These responses can be improvements in cognitive abilities, physiological responses such as improved brain communication chemical (neurotransmitters) effectiveness, and more.

Wearing Eyelights, as little as 10 minutes a day, is scientifically proven to cause dramatic improvements in mental ability, balance, vision,  alertness, ADD, ADHD, autism and so much more. Eyelights can dramatically improve mental concentration as well as help children overcome learning disabilities such as Dyslexia and ADD.

Neurofeedback Brain Training

This type of care uses real-time analysis of brain waves to provide positive feedback when the brain demonstrates the correct wave patterns. This allows the brain to self-regulate and self-correct for the appropriate wave pattern producing a longer-lasting effect than that found with pharmaceutical therapies. When the brain establishes the correct pattern, positive feedback is displayed in a visual fashion, further stimulating the brain.

For those who have ADD or ADHD, navigating the plethora of available misinformation concerning natural alternatives to standard treatment can be challenging. However, Neurofeedback therapy is a proven treatment for ADD and ADHD as well as other concerns. It is a non-invasive treatment regime that works with the existing mechanisms in the brain to produce results that not only provide quick results but results that can last.

Brain-Based Therapy

Brain-Based Therapy (BBT) is an amazingly powerful, all-natural healing technique used to restore people to their optimum state of health. The left and right hemispheres of the brain function in tandem. The various lobes on each side of the brain are intended to be naturally balanced and the activities within them are intended to be in harmony. BBT involves short repetitive actions to improve balance and function in specific areas of weak brain function. Each individually tailored prescription is developed to improve left-right communication and strengthen brain lobes that are not performing well. Think of BBT functional neurologic activities as exercise specific to the brain. Dr. Johnson usually teaches the patient the proper activities requesting that the program is performed at home for short periods of time daily.

Spinal Adjustments

Unilateral Spinal Adjustment seeks to improve the effects on the neurological system found in the human body. As the spine is the main conduit for this neurological system, adjustments can improve responses throughout the body including the brain. These adjustments work in conjunction with other care options to improve the overall effectiveness of the treatments and to help promote longer-lasting effects. I have found rather profound changes in brain and body function that only resolved after spinal dysfunction was corrected with specific chiropractic adjustments.

Why You Should Consider Alternative Options First!

All of the above procedures work to get at the root causes of ADD/ADHD. Each care option is designed to address one or more causes that create an ADHD condition as well as addressing any triggers that might promote or enhance the ADHD situation in your child. These treatments are non-invasive and have been proven clinically effective as well as long-lasting. These outcomes can allow the choice of medication to be the treatment of last resort.

No child or family should have to suffer from the issues and concerns surrounding ADD/ADHD. Especially when there are proven ADHD treatments that are sustainable, efficient, and do not alter the core personality of the child as medication can. As a parent, you will want to explore every care option available that will provide your child with the opportunity to succeed.

If you or someone who know struggles with the difficulties of ADD or ADHD, now is an excellent time to discuss your options with a Neurofeedback Therapy provider so they or you can get on the road to a better quality of life.
