Neurofeedback Can Help Eliminate ADD ADHD Symptoms

According to the CDC, 6 million children in the United States have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Children with ADD/ADHD  are often quite intelligent, but ADD and ADHD symptoms can stop them from enjoying the success they deserve. The AAPB (Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback) rated neurofeedback as Efficacious and Specific: Level 5 (its highest evidence rating) with respect to helping ADHD. Neurofeedback is a cutting-edge therapy that uses real-time brain activity monitoring to train and regulate brainwaves, helping individuals with ADHD improve their focus, attention, and overall cognitive performance. The ISNR (International Society for Neuroregulation and Research) considers Neurofeedback to be Efficacious and Specific (Level 5) which means there are quality research designs showing positive outcomes for improved attention, and decreased hyperactivity and impulsivity.

Neurofeedback training improves the ability to focus and concentrate

Patients with ADD and ADHD often have an excess level of Delta brainwave energy. These are long, slow brainwaves that can interfere with the ability to properly focus and concentrate. Neurofeedback works by balancing this brainwave energy, allowing the patient to better focus and concentrate on the task at hand.   Dr. Johnson believes in a multi-faceted approach to ADD and ADHD, including nutritional analysis along with neurofeedback to assist in returning the brain to optimal function.

Stephanie explains how this approach helped her overcome her lifelong issue with ADD:

Neurofeedback is an all-natural technology

First, brain mapping is done to get a baseline on the patient’s brain. This is a painless procedure that measures brainwaves.  Once this data is collected, it serves as the basis for designing your individualized neurofeedback training protocol.

Neurofeedback sessions involve relaxing for 30 minutes while you watch a movie or listen to the music of your choice (no violent or sexually explicit movies or music) that has a relaxing effect and keeps your attention. Sensors are lightly placed on your scalp using a conductive paste to measure your brainwaves output in real-time during your session. When an imbalance in brainwaves is noted, “feedback” is triggered from the software that dims the video and lowers the audio inputs.

These small changes in audio and visual stimuli act to re-train the brain into more efficient healthier brainwave patterns. Neurofeedback training sessions help your brain create new neuropathways that have been shown to ultimately lead to clearer thinking, focus, and a reduction in hyperactivity.

Long-term positive results.

Research on neurofeedback has shown excellent results for patients with ADD/ADHD.  With the creation of the new neural pathways, the results are long-term. Remember when you learned to ride a bike? With repetition and practice, you mastered that new skill. Neurofeedback works in much the same way – and, just like riding a bike, the pathways developed during training remain long after your last training session.

Even better, since neurofeedback is an all-natural process, there are no side effects. Once your brain learns to work more efficiently, the symptoms of ADD and ADHD can be eliminated in the long term!
