How Nutrition affects Neurofeedback Outcomes
Would you like to maximize your neurofeedback results? Many children, teenagers, and adults struggle with a variety of symptoms that neurofeedback can help. Neurofeedback helps the brain regulate and change itself, so it’s healthier and functions more optimally. Paying attention to diet can help your neurofeedback sessions be even more effective and improve your overall wellness.
Nutrition plays a complicated role in our bodies. Often, we think we’re eating healthy when a few tweaks to our diet can make a big difference in how we feel.
Our Brain Needs Proper Fuel
The brain is one of the most active organs in the body. Despite being only two percent of our body weight, it uses 20 percent or more of our body’s total energy requirements. By feeding it the nutrients it needs and removing unhealthy foods, you can cut down on inflammation, help it use energy more efficiently, and in many cases, decrease symptoms associated with various disorders.
By making some changes to your diet, your brain will be in a more stable state to maximize the benefits of neurofeedback. When the brain is well-fed, it’s more likely to be nimble, adjust to neurofeedback training more quickly, and make positive changes more readily.
Some foods are thought to be particularly helpful for the brain such as foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids. There are also whole categories of diets that have shown promising results in research for disorders like ADD, ADHD, autism, epilepsy, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s. Some of these may include going gluten-free or trying low-carb, high-fat diets like a modified Atkin’s diet or other ketogenic meal plans.
As your neurofeedback practitioner, I can recommend dietary changes and helpful supplements based on your brain map, symptoms, and lab tests since I am skilled in the correlation between nutrition and brain chemistry.
